Dr Sharma has a strong interest in HPB oncology, in particular pancreatic cancer.

“I believe in patient-centred, compassionate and evidence based care with the goal of achieving the most optimal outcome for my patients with safety being paramount in my practice. My goal is to ensure that patients feel heard, respected and supported in their surgical journey. For those of a non-English speaking background, I will arrange an interpreter (usually in person but occasionally over the phone) for the consultation to ensure a clear understanding of the patient’s condition and my recommendation for the same”.

Dr Sharma is actively involved with teaching and training in Liverpool Hospital. She is a conjoint lecturer with University of New South Wales and is a Surgery Sub Committee member of the Australian Gastrointestinal Trials Group (AGITG).

Dr Sharma is also a general surgeon who can repair abdominal wall and groin hernias as open or laparoscopic procedures.

Dr Sharma is GESA accredited for Endoscopy and Colonoscopy.

Personal Q&As

I chose surgery because it is definitive and I enjoy the physical nature of surgery. I have a strong interest in complex gastrointestinal oncology (cancer surgery), which is the reason for my post-fellowship training years.

Day to day, a laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

With resectional work, all things HPB!!

Too many to name. I’m very grateful to have worked with some fantastic mentors in Liverpool, St George Hospital, RNSH, Westmead and the Western Hospital in Footscray in Melbourne.

Those experiences have made me the surgeon I am today.

I still speak with them now to discuss challenging cases.

Spending time with my family and friends, Current affairs, reading (non-fiction), staying fit, travelling.
